Over on our Instagram, we asked for some more recommendations in response to our Our Top 8 Picnic Spots in London and you gave us some wonderful places that we can’t wait to check out.
We’ve listed them below with some food & drinks recommendations in each area too!
This park is a little bit out of the way, but is a great place to spend the day if you have small children with the Dinosaurs clearly being the main attraction! Although not completely scientifically accurate due to advances in knowledge since they were commissioned in 1852, they are a great attraction and still serve some educational purpose.
Somewhere we’ve been wanting to try in the Crystal Palace area is Yak & Yeti. With an extensive Nepalese, Indian and Tibetan menu, you’ll be able to find something you’ll love. Get your classic curry order or try something completely new, available to deliver and collect.
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, Hill 44 is the place to go. Serving coffee, smoothies and a range of sweet and savoury waffles, it’s a place to indulge!
Our favourite part of Greenwich Park is The Wilderness Deer Park, but we love walking up from Blackheath up to the Cutty Sark which is just north of the park.
If you’re in the mood for a beverage, head to Greenwich Tavern, a family-run pub in the centre of the London suburb. They have a lovely building and great outdoor seating if the sun is out!
Close by is a fabulous Indian vegetarian and vegan restaurant called Chef Hullabaloo. Selling authentic street food inspired by the Delhi area, focussing on an abundance of colour and flavour. All dishes are encouraged to eat traditionally using the hands, perfect for a picnic.
If you’re entering Richmond Park from the north (via Richmond stations), we recommend taking a small detour towards the River Thames to hit up some of the places along the water. Like Colicci, a family-owned cafe and restaurant with a speciality in ice-cream.
Petersham Nurseries Cafe is a picturesque place for a lovely little sit down meal. With a fancy tasting menu starting at £55, this is a great place for an occasion, great if you have a spring or summer birthday! Sit amongst the flowers for a light lunch or afternoon tea.
Wishing for an escape to the country? There’s no need to even leave the city, just head east to Hackney City Farm! A great place for children and adults alike, you can get up close and personal with farmyard animals including lambs, goats, piglets and donkeys! They also offer workshops and courses if you want a more educational day out.
Close by is our favourite sandwich shop Dom’s Subs which we’ve mentioned over here before. If you’re looking for something a little fancier, try The Laughing Heart, serving contemporary British cuisine and artisan wine.
For something a little different, we love Little Georgia, a quaint restaurant selling traditional Georgian cuisine with lots of veggie options like Kotnic Lobio and Nigvziani Badrijani.
Into gothic architecture? A trip to the cemetery might sound morbid, but this restored burial ground has some lovely parts to it, including a woodland garden and nature reserve renowned for butterflies and bats.
Close by is Chow Patty, serving Mumbai Street food for takeaway. Order a few small dishes and share between friends. Their combo meals are a steal too! If you’re looking for something lighter, head to The Bun Cafe for tea and pastries! Can’t go wrong.
