What we're listening to

The Staves - Good Woman

This sister trio have been paving a way in folk music for the almost ten years, gaining a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim. Their new album Good Woman talks about friendship and sisterhood, all bundled up in perfect harmonies. The band have been championing independent record stores in the process, where you can buy physical copies of the record.

Our London favourite is Banquet Records.

What we’re watching

Malcolm & Marie - Netflix

The first Hollywood film to be completely produced, financed and released during a global pandemic, the film captures the couple on the night of Malcom’s debut as a film director, as they have a conversation about their relationship, the film industry and society in general. The film has received mixed reviews, but we loved the dialogue, aesthetic and seeing two black actors taking centre stage.

What we’re making

Easy Vegan Pesto

Pesto pasta is a staple in many of our lives. It’s simple, quick and always tasty, but instead of reaching for a jar, it’s almost as easy to make it from scratch. With just a few ingredients and a food processor, you can make a gorgeously fresh pesto. Check out our DIY Tutorial where maker Lily talks us through her process (it’s vegan too!).

What we’re doing

Psycle At Home Workouts

If you’re missing the gym, or want to get started in your fitness journey this month, Psycle (@psyclelondon on Instagram) is a great place to find what you like and access routines and classes that fit in with your needs. They’ve got virtual classes to help you stay fit throughout lockdown. If you have 45 minutes on your lunch, or want a 5 minute session to help you wake up, they’ve got you covered.

We'll definitely be signing up to real-life classes once the doors open again too.

What we’re buying

The Body Shop Youth Concentrate

So many things can have an impact on our skin, and many are unfortunately unavoidable. From pollution (us Londoner’s know all about that) to central heating and ageing in general. This concentrate from The Body Shop helps counteract all that, using natural ingredients to help your skin retain moisture and speed up cell renewal.

What we're reading

Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams

This book has won a string of awards since its release in 2019, including Book of the Year at the British Book Awards. Following the life of 25 year old Queenie, living in south London and trying to find herself in the mix of her Jamaican and British culture, it poetically and comically illustrates the impact of race and class on a young woman in a white, middle-class workplace whose also balancing her regular life struggles.

A great all round read about friendship, self-love and relationships from a black perspective.
